Ingredients

						Scale

		- 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
 - 2 ½ tsp baking powder
 - ½ tsp baking soda
 - ½ tsp salt
 - ¾ cup unsalted butter, softened
 - 1 ¾ cups granulated sugar
 - 4 large eggs
 - 1 tbsp vanilla extract
 - 1 cup whole milk
 - 2 cups buttercream frosting (for filling and crumb coat)
 - 2 cups colored buttercream (for decoration)
 - 1 cup assorted candy (M&Ms, Skittles, gummy bears, etc.) for the filling
 - 1 cup assorted candy for decoration

Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour three 8-inch round cake pans.
 - In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
 - In a separate large bowl, cream the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
 - Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each. Stir in vanilla extract.
 - Alternate adding dry ingredients and milk to the butter mixture, starting and ending with dry ingredients. Mix until just combined.
 - Divide batter evenly between prepared pans and bake for 25–30 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean. Cool completely.
 - Use a round cutter to remove the center of two of the cake layers.
 - Place the first ring layer on a serving plate and spread with a thin layer of buttercream. Stack the second ring layer on top and spread buttercream again.
 - Fill the center cavity with assorted candy.
 - Place the uncut third layer on top to seal the cake. Apply a crumb coat of buttercream over the entire cake and chill for 15 minutes.
 - Decorate the chilled cake with colored buttercream and additional candy on top and sides as desired.

Notes
- You can use boxed cake mix to save time.
 - Chilling the cake after crumb-coating helps seal in crumbs for a clean finish.
 - Choose candies that won’t melt inside the cake.
 - Customize colors and candies based on the celebration theme.
