Tiramisu

Tiramisu is a classic Italian no-bake dessert featuring layers of coffee-soaked ladyfingers and a rich, creamy mascarpone mixture, dusted with cocoa powder.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 large egg yolks
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 16 oz mascarpone cheese
  • 2 cups brewed espresso or strong coffee, cooled
  • 1/2 cup coffee liqueur (optional)
  • 1 package (7 oz) ladyfinger cookies (savoiardi)
  • Unsweetened cocoa powder, for dusting
  • Dark chocolate shavings (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a heatproof bowl, whisk egg yolks and sugar together. Place over a pot of simmering water (double boiler method) and whisk constantly for about 8–10 minutes until thick and pale. Remove from heat and let cool.
  2. In a separate bowl, whip the heavy cream until stiff peaks form.
  3. In another bowl, mix mascarpone cheese until smooth. Gently fold in the cooled egg yolk mixture, then fold in the whipped cream until combined.
  4. In a shallow dish, combine brewed coffee and coffee liqueur (if using).
  5. Quickly dip each ladyfinger into the coffee mixture, making sure not to soak too long.
  6. Arrange a layer of dipped ladyfingers in the bottom of a 9×13 inch dish or trifle dish.
  7. Spread half of the mascarpone mixture over the ladyfingers and smooth the top.
  8. Repeat with another layer of dipped ladyfingers and the remaining mascarpone mixture.
  9. Cover and refrigerate for at least 6 hours or overnight for best flavor and texture.
  10. Before serving, dust with cocoa powder and garnish with chocolate shavings if desired.

Notes

  • Use high-quality espresso for the best flavor.
  • The dessert is best prepared a day in advance to allow flavors to develop.
  • For a non-alcoholic version, omit the coffee liqueur.
  • Store in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
