Tiramisu Cake

Tiramisu cake is a layered dessert combining coffee-soaked sponge cake with rich mascarpone cream, inspired by the classic Italian tiramisu.

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup whole milk
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups brewed espresso or strong coffee, cooled
  • 2 tbsp coffee liqueur (optional)
  • 16 oz mascarpone cheese
  • 1 cup heavy whipping cream
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Unsweetened cocoa powder (for dusting)
  • Chocolate shavings or curls (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line two 8-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In a large bowl, beat eggs and sugar until light and fluffy, about 5 minutes.
  4. Heat milk and butter in a small saucepan until butter melts. Stir in vanilla extract.
  5. Slowly add the flour mixture to the egg mixture, followed by the warm milk mixture. Mix just until combined.
  6. Divide the batter between the prepared pans and bake for 20–25 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  7. Let cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then turn out onto wire racks to cool completely.
  8. Mix the espresso with coffee liqueur (if using) in a shallow dish.
  9. In a mixing bowl, beat mascarpone cheese until smooth. In a separate bowl, whip heavy cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla until stiff peaks form. Fold whipped cream into mascarpone.
  10. Slice each cake layer horizontally to make four layers total.
  11. Place one layer on a serving plate. Brush with coffee mixture, then spread a layer of mascarpone cream over it.
  12. Repeat with remaining layers, ending with a layer of cream on top.
  13. Dust the top with cocoa powder and garnish with chocolate shavings, if desired.
  14. Refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight before serving.

Notes

  • Use fresh espresso or strong coffee for best flavor.
  • Letting the cake sit overnight enhances the flavor.
  • Omit coffee liqueur for an alcohol-free version.
