Skeleton Bone Meringues are spooky, crispy treats perfect for Halloween. These light and airy cookies are shaped like bones and made from simple meringue, creating a fun and eerie addition to your festive dessert table.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 large egg whites
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon cream of tartar
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 225°F (110°C) and line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a clean, dry mixing bowl, beat egg whites on medium speed until foamy.
  3. Add cream of tartar and continue to beat until soft peaks form.
  4. Gradually add sugar, 1 tablespoon at a time, beating on high until stiff, glossy peaks form.
  5. Beat in vanilla extract.
  6. Transfer the meringue to a piping bag fitted with a round tip.
  7. Pipe bone shapes onto the prepared baking sheets.
  8. Bake for 1 hour, then turn off the oven and let meringues cool inside the oven for another hour to dry out completely.
  9. Remove from oven and store in an airtight container.

Notes

  • Ensure no egg yolk gets into the whites to achieve perfect peaks.
  • Use a bone template under the parchment if you need help piping shapes.
  • Humidity can affect meringue texture; make on a dry day if possible.
