Peach Cobbler

A classic Southern dessert made with juicy peaches and a sweet, biscuit-like topping that’s baked to golden perfection.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 68 fresh peaches, peeled and sliced (about 6 cups)
  • 1 cup granulated sugar (divided)
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (1 stick)
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon (optional)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Juice of 1/2 lemon (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large bowl, mix the sliced peaches with 1/2 cup of the granulated sugar, brown sugar, and lemon juice (if using). Let sit for about 10 minutes to release juices.
  3. Place the butter in a 9×13 inch baking dish and melt it in the oven. Once melted, remove the dish from the oven.
  4. In another bowl, combine the flour, remaining 1/2 cup of granulated sugar, baking powder, and salt. Stir in the milk and vanilla extract to form a batter.
  5. Pour the batter over the melted butter in the baking dish. Do not stir.
  6. Spoon the peaches and their juices evenly over the batter. Again, do not stir. Sprinkle cinnamon on top if desired.
  7. Bake for 40-45 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and cooked through.
  8. Remove from oven and let cool slightly before serving. Best served warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.

Notes

  • You can use canned or frozen peaches if fresh are not available.
  • Adjust sugar depending on the sweetness of the peaches.
  • Add a dash of nutmeg for additional warmth and flavor.
  • Great when served warm with ice cream.
