- In another bowl, beat the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
 
- Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition, then stir in vanilla extract.
 
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, alternating with milk, starting and ending with flour mixture. Mix until just combined.
 
- Divide the batter evenly among the cupcake liners, filling each about 2/3 full.
 
- Bake for 18–20 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean. Let cool completely.
 
- Divide buttercream into bowls and color each with desired food coloring.
 
- Using a piping bag fitted with a star tip, swirl the colored buttercream on each cooled cupcake.
