Matcha Green Tea Cake

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 tbsp matcha green tea powder
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup milk

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line a 9-inch round cake pan.
  2. In a medium bowl, sift together flour, matcha powder, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In a separate large bowl, cream butter and sugar until pale and fluffy.
  4. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in vanilla extract.
  5. Gradually fold in dry ingredients, alternating with milk, until smooth.
  6. Pour batter into prepared pan and smooth the surface.
  7. Bake for 25–30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  8. Cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

  • For a richer color and flavor, use high-quality ceremonial grade matcha.
  • Dust the top with extra matcha powder or powdered sugar before serving.
  • Can be paired with whipped cream or a light cream cheese frosting.
