- 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- 2 ½ tsp baking powder
- ½ tsp salt
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- 4 large eggs
- 1 tbsp vanilla extract
- 1 cup whole milk
- 3 cups buttercream frosting
- Gel food coloring (black, purple, blue, pink)
- Edible glitter and star sprinkles
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease three 8-inch round cake pans.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
- Cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in eggs one at a time, then stir in vanilla extract.
- Alternate adding the flour mixture and milk to the butter mixture, beginning and ending with flour. Mix until just combined.
- Divide batter evenly between the prepared pans and bake for 25–30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
- Cool cakes completely before frosting.
- Tint the buttercream with galaxy colors (black, purple, blue, pink) and spread them randomly on the cake. Use a spatula to swirl the colors together to create a galaxy effect.
- Decorate with edible glitter and star sprinkles to finish the cosmic look.
Notes
- You can use chocolate cake layers for a darker base that enhances the galaxy look.
- Chill the cake before decorating to make frosting easier.
- Gel food coloring is recommended for vibrant hues without thinning the frosting.
