- 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- 2 ½ tsp baking powder
- ½ tsp salt
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- 4 large eggs
- 1 tbsp vanilla extract
- 1 cup whole milk
- 1–2 tsp cotton candy flavoring
- Pink and blue food coloring
- 3 cups powdered sugar (for frosting)
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened (for frosting)
- 2–3 tbsp heavy cream (for frosting)
- Sprinkles and cotton candy (for garnish)
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease three 8-inch round cake pans.
- In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
- In a large bowl, cream together butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each. Mix in vanilla extract and cotton candy flavoring.
- Alternately add flour mixture and milk, beginning and ending with flour. Mix until just combined.
- Divide batter into two bowls and color one with pink food coloring and the other with blue.
- Spoon alternating dollops of each colored batter into pans and swirl slightly for a marbled effect.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Cool completely.
- To make the frosting, beat butter until smooth, then gradually add powdered sugar.
- Add cotton candy flavoring, food coloring if desired, and heavy cream until desired consistency is reached.
- Layer and frost the cooled cakes, then decorate with sprinkles and real cotton candy just before serving.
