Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 ½ tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 tbsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 12 tsp cotton candy flavoring
  • Pink and blue food coloring
  • 3 cups powdered sugar (for frosting)
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened (for frosting)
  • 23 tbsp heavy cream (for frosting)
  • Sprinkles and cotton candy (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease three 8-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
  3. In a large bowl, cream together butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each. Mix in vanilla extract and cotton candy flavoring.
  5. Alternately add flour mixture and milk, beginning and ending with flour. Mix until just combined.
  6. Divide batter into two bowls and color one with pink food coloring and the other with blue.
  7. Spoon alternating dollops of each colored batter into pans and swirl slightly for a marbled effect.
  8. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Cool completely.
  9. To make the frosting, beat butter until smooth, then gradually add powdered sugar.
  10. Add cotton candy flavoring, food coloring if desired, and heavy cream until desired consistency is reached.
  11. Layer and frost the cooled cakes, then decorate with sprinkles and real cotton candy just before serving.

Notes

  • Add cotton candy garnish just before serving to avoid melting.
  • You can use cotton candy flavoring oil or extract depending on availability.
  • Store cake in a cool place to maintain frosting texture.
