A moist and flavorful caramel apple cake made with fresh apples and rich caramel, perfect for fall desserts or festive gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 3 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 3 cups peeled and chopped apples (such as Granny Smith)
  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts or pecans (optional)
  • 1 cup caramel sauce (store-bought or homemade)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×13-inch baking pan.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Set aside.
  3. In a large bowl, beat the butter, oil, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in vanilla extract.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing just until combined.
  6. Fold in chopped apples and nuts (if using).
  7. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and smooth the top.
  8. Bake for 40-45 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  9. Remove from oven and let cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  10. Drizzle caramel sauce over the cooled cake before serving.

Notes

  • Use tart apples like Granny Smith for the best flavor balance.
  • Homemade caramel sauce adds a richer taste but store-bought works fine too.
  • Can be served warm with vanilla ice cream for extra indulgence.
