Brown Sugar Cookies

Soft and chewy brown sugar cookies with a rich, buttery flavor and warm caramel undertones, perfect for any time of the year.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup unsalted butter, melted and slightly cooled
  • 1 1/4 cups packed light brown sugar
  • 1 large egg plus 1 egg yolk
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
  3. In a large bowl, combine melted butter and brown sugar. Mix until well combined.
  4. Add the egg, egg yolk, and vanilla extract to the sugar mixture and mix until smooth.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and stir until a soft dough forms.
  6. Scoop tablespoon-sized portions of dough and roll into balls. Place them on the prepared baking sheets, spacing them 2 inches apart.
  7. Bake for 8–10 minutes, or until the edges are set and the centers look slightly underbaked.
  8. Let cookies cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

  • Do not overbake to maintain soft centers.
  • Chilling the dough for 30 minutes can help prevent spreading.
  • Use dark brown sugar for a stronger molasses flavor.
