BBQ Jackfruit Sliders

BBQ Jackfruit Sliders are a delicious vegan alternative to pulled pork sliders, featuring tender young jackfruit cooked in tangy barbecue sauce and served on soft slider buns.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cans young green jackfruit in brine (20 oz total), drained and rinsed
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1/2 tsp ground cumin
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 1 cup BBQ sauce (vegan-friendly)
  • Slider buns (8-10, depending on size)
  • Coleslaw (optional, for serving)

Instructions

  1. Drain and rinse the jackfruit, then use your hands or a fork to shred it slightly, removing any hard core pieces if needed.
  2. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add chopped onion and sauté until softened, about 3-4 minutes.
  3. Add garlic, smoked paprika, cumin, and black pepper. Cook for 1 minute until fragrant.
  4. Add shredded jackfruit to the skillet and stir to coat with spices. Cook for 5-7 minutes to slightly brown the jackfruit.
  5. Pour in the BBQ sauce and stir well. Reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  6. Uncover and cook for another 5 minutes to reduce any excess moisture.
  7. Toast slider buns if desired. Spoon BBQ jackfruit onto the bottom half of each bun.
  8. Top with optional coleslaw and close with the top bun. Serve warm.

Notes

  • Use homemade or store-bought BBQ sauce that suits your taste and dietary preferences.
  • Coleslaw adds crunch and contrast, but is optional.
  • Jackfruit texture improves when simmered longer, allowing flavors to meld.
