Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 ripe avocado
  • 1/4 cup sour cream or Greek yogurt
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1/4 cup fresh cilantro leaves
  • 2 tablespoons lime juice (about 1 lime)
  • 1 teaspoon lime zest
  • Salt to taste
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1/2 teaspoon chili powder (for optional taco filling)
  • 2 cups cooked or grilled protein (e.g., chicken, shrimp, or black beans)
  • 1 cup shredded cabbage or slaw mix
  • Small corn or flour tortillas (6-8)
  • Optional toppings: diced tomatoes, sliced radishes, extra cilantro, jalapeño slices

Instructions

  1. In a blender or food processor, combine avocado, sour cream (or Greek yogurt), garlic, cilantro, lime juice, lime zest, cumin, and salt. Blend until smooth and creamy to make the crema.
  2. Warm tortillas on a skillet or in the oven until soft and pliable.
  3. Heat or cook the taco filling of your choice (e.g., seasoned chicken, shrimp, or black beans).
  4. Assemble tacos by layering protein, shredded cabbage, and any desired toppings on tortillas.
  5. Drizzle generously with avocado lime crema.
  6. Serve immediately and enjoy.

Notes

  • You can make the crema ahead and refrigerate for up to 2 days.
  • Add a splash of water to thin the crema if needed.
  • Use Greek yogurt for a tangier, healthier alternative to sour cream.
  • Great for both vegetarian and meat fillings.
